Hundreds of thousands of our ancestors ran a pub, worked in a beer house, tavern or coaching inn, or were brewers' draymen or coopers. The public house, in all its forms, had been a key part of local communities for many centuries. Simon Fowler is an experienced genealogist and lecturer, an expert on this subject and is also a member of the Pub History Society. His talk will demonstrate how to start researching brewery and publican forebears, looking at the major sources available to find more about these men and women. Simon will also provide a brief history of brewing and pubs in Britain since medieval times.
